Pining Over Prescott

by Lesleigh Smith

Every summer, we, Phoenicians, pack our bags to escape the scorching, summer weather. We end up seeking cooler temperatures in neighboring states or stay hunkered down and crank the air conditioning indoors.

If you crave the outdoors but don’t want to leave our great state during the hottest months of the year, Lesleigh and Alex Simth say “look no further than Prescott, Arizona.”

Plan a trip and you’ll quickly understand what makes the city such an attractive spot.

First, it’s just a two-hour drive from the Valley. Secondly, visitors [or residents] can hike, kayak and bike against the beautiful backdrop of the greenery and mountains, all year long. The 5,300-foot elevation provides four, mild seasons throughout the year.

Imagine—enjoyable, winter snow is just a two-hour jaunt north, and it doesn’t often require shoveling! Plus, the pine trees, lakes, mountains and fresh air truly provide a stunning atmosphere for all your outdoor adventures.

And, while the climate might remind you of Flagstaff, the two towns have their differences.

Comparatively, Prescott is less crowded and offers a more small-town, know-your-neighbor type of feel. It’s been called “Everybody’s hometown” because of the welcoming community and there’s deep history and tradition, as the host of the World’s Oldest Rodeo.

Most importantly, cost of living in Prescott is 1.8 % more affordable than Flagstaff. Who doesn’t want to get more for their money?

So, if you’re looking to beat the heat without leaving our desert state [hello, summer highs of 88 degrees!], look no further than a weekend visit to and/or a property purchase in Prescott.

The hardest decision you’ll have to make is how to correctly pronounce of the city’s name… Are you Team Pres-cott or Team Pres-kit?
